Is it permissible to lie by saying "yes" if a person is asked about a passport they do not possess?

The fundamental ruling on lying is prohibition, due to the prohibition mentioned in the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Beware of lying, for lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire."

If a person needs to lie to achieve a legitimate benefit, they should resort to alluding (ta‘reeḍ) and dissimulation (tawriyah). If they find no way to ensure their safety or achieve their interests except through lying, then they are permitted to lie.

Lying is permissible for reconciling disputes between people, in war, and for a husband to his wife only.

If the attainment of the objective is permissible, then lying is permissible. If it is obligatory, then lying is obligatory.
