How authentic is the hadith: "If you are able to remain in a state of wudu' (ablution) always, then do so; for indeed, when the Angel of Death seizes the soul of a servant while he is in a state of wudu', martyrdom is written for him," and what is meant by "martyrdom is written for him" if the hadith is authentic? And what is the virtue of performing wudu' before sleep and remaining in a state of wudu' throughout the day?

The Prophetic Hadith (definition): "O my son, if you are able not to sleep except with ablution, then do so, for whoever is overtaken by death while he is in a state of ablution, he will be granted martyrdom" is very weak and cannot be relied upon due to the extreme weakness of its narrators.

As for the best of what has been narrated regarding the virtue of ablution before sleeping, it is what Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from Al-Bara' bin 'Azib that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When you go to your bed, perform ablution as you do for prayer, then lie down on your right side, then say: 'O Allah, I have surrendered my face to You...' If you die that night, you will die upon al-fitrah (definition) (the natural disposition of Islam)." Among the virtues of ablution before sleeping is also that Allah grants whoever asks Him the good of this world and the Hereafter if he sleeps in a state of purity and wakes up at night supplicating.

Maintaining ablution at all times is considered good and virtuous because it enables a servant to perform acts of worship such as prayer, reciting the Quran, and touching the Mushaf (definition). It is also a sign of faith and brings the servant closer to Allah. Additionally, ablution is one of the expiations for sins.
