What is the ruling on one who rephrases Quranic verses in his own style, such as the poet's saying: "The Most Merciful said to him, as an admonition: 'How can you see Me, when My light dazzles the sight? So look at the Mount if it remains in its place, then if it sees some of My lights, you will see Me'"?

Scholars differed regarding quoting from the Quran, and the preponderant opinion is that it is permissible if it serves a legitimate purpose, whether in prose or poetry. As for the mentioned verses, they belong to Ibn Mushrif, in which he describes the story of Moses (peace be upon him) with his Lord. There is no objection in them because the intention is the meaning, not the exact wording of God’s speech. Something similar occurred with Hassan ibn Thabit in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), where he spoke words whose meaning he attributed to God, and the Prophet approved of him and praised him. The questioner is advised to abandon rigidity and obsessive doubts that forbid what is not forbidden.
