Is it permissible for me to divorce my wife with whom I have consummated the marriage, without completing the rest of the Mahr (dowry) and postponing the wedding night, due to recurring problems between us?

The answer

If the husband consummates the marriage with his wife, her full mahr (dowry) becomes obligatory upon him, regardless of whether the consummation was publicly announced or a wedding ceremony held. It is advised not to rush into divorce, but to reflect on the matter and consider the good aspects of the wife, for Allah may place much good in her, as confirmed by His Almighty statement: "And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good." [An-Nisa:19]. And according to the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another."
