What is the ruling on eating and dressing from commingled wealth that contains both lawful and unlawful elements, with the intention of returning the unlawful portion specifically to its owners? And if it is not permissible, then from where should one eat until Allah provides relief?

Unlawful wealth is either related to the rights of others, such as stolen or usurped property, in which case it must be returned to its owner, or an equivalent thereof or its value if it has perished. Or it may be unlawful due to the manner of its acquisition with the consent of the payer, such as the price of intoxicants or the dowry of a prostitute; this is not returned to its payer, but rather its possessor disposes of it by spending it on charitable causes. He is permitted to take from it an amount sufficient for his needs if he is poor, or what suffices him as capital for a trade or craft if he is skilled in it, as mentioned in the fatwas of Ibn Taymiyyah. If the wealth is mixed with lawful and unlawful portions, he may only take the lawful portion.
