What are the rights due to a woman working in the home, other than salary, food, and other benefits? Is it necessary to provide her with things like clothing and household necessities, even if she and her husband are capable? And is it permissible for her to eat, drink, and engage in activities in the home without permission?

Islamic law encourages kindness to servants, by having the homeowner share his food and drink with them, especially if the servant prepared or carried the food. This is based on what Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If one of you is brought food by his servant, and he does not make him sit with him, then he should give him a mouthful or two mouthfuls, or a bite or two bites, for he has borne its heat and preparation." This is understood as being recommendable, not obligatory. Among noble manners is to forgive and overlook the common mistakes of servants, as Abu Dawud narrated that a man asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, how many times he should forgive his servant, and he replied: "Forgive him seventy times every day." A female servant is not allowed to engage in unusual activities in the house or dispose of its belongings without the homeowner's permission, nor is she allowed to take or give anything from it that is not customary or for which the homeowner has not given permission. If she does so, she has betrayed the trust. She has no fixed right beyond what was stipulated for her in the contract or what is customary.
