What is the meaning of the term "al-Bada'" mentioned in the chapter on fatwas when discussing the compilation of the Noble Qur'an?
Al-Jurjani defined bada' as the appearance of something after it was not. Al-Shahrastani mentioned three meanings for it: 1. Bada' in knowledge: The appearance of something contrary to what was known. 2. Bada' in will: The appearance of what is right, contrary to what was willed and decreed. 3. Bada' in command: Commanding something, then commanding its opposite.
The first and second meanings are false, while the third is naskh (abrogation) in Shari'ah, which is sound. The corrupted Torah of the Jews contained bada' in its two false meanings, as they depicted God regretting His actions, even though they denied bada' for God in order to undermine the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him), which led them into contradiction.
The Kaysaniyyah and the Bada'iyyah sect are among the Islamic groups that affirmed bada'. Al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi used to justify defeats by saying, "A new matter has appeared to Allah."
