Is the extra money obtained from boat owners, or financial gifts from them, in exchange for inspecting boats and the knowledge of the managers, permissible or forbidden?

It is not permissible for an employee to accept gifts presented to him because of his position, as these are among the gifts to workers that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, considered as unlawful gain, unless the responsible employer authorizes their acceptance.
