Should a husband remain married to a stubborn, nervous wife who insults him and doubts his behavior, especially when family intervention exacerbates problems, and the husband's attempts to reform her by various means have been in vain?

The spouses must treat each other with kindness, with each knowing and fulfilling the other's rights, so that they may enjoy a happy marital life. They should exercise reason and not exchange insults and blows. The wife must obey her husband in what is good and permissible, for he is her maintainer, as Allah Almighty said: "Men are maintainers of women, because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; so good women are obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah has guarded." When cohabitation becomes impossible, divorce becomes a solution to remove the corruption, and each spouse may move on to a better state. Allah Almighty said: "But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each of them from His abundance. And Allah is ever Encompassing and Wise." Finally, an accusation of perversion is serious and may be considered slander, requiring caution.
