Is it permissible for a woman to seek divorce from her husband who insults her, threatens her with divorce, emotionally and sexually abandons her, and does not appreciate her, knowing that she has tried to mend the relationship without success?
A wise wife will never be at a loss for a way to reach her husband's heart and understand how to deal with him. Raising one’s voice with insults and humiliation, and the husband’s indifference, contradict the good companionship commanded by Islamic law, as stated in His Almighty’s words: "And live with them honorably," and "And due to them [the wives] is similar to what is due from them, in a reasonable manner." The uprightness of married life is achieved when each party fulfills their rights, overlooks shortcomings, and focuses on the positives. The presence of a child between the spouses necessitates addressing problems wisely, overlooking slip-ups, and engaging in frank discussion to understand the causes. Responding to bad deeds with good ones and exercising beautiful patience leads to winning the husband's heart, in accordance with His Almighty’s saying: "Repel [evil] with that which is better, and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity will become as though he was a devoted friend." Getting to know other people is a door to evil and temptation from Satan to destroy the home and displease Allah. Therefore, one must seek forgiveness, close these doors, and focus on the husband.
