Is it permissible to face the Qibla and stand during the obligatory and supererogatory prayers? And when is it permissible to omit standing in a supererogatory prayer, and is that restricted to travel or does it include supererogatory prayers in general? And should what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did after prohibiting something be adhered to literally?

Standing and facing the Qibla are two essential conditions for the validity of prayer. However, facing the Qibla is waived in the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf) and in supererogatory prayers performed on a mount during travel. As for standing, it is waived in supererogatory prayers, and the worshiper receives half the reward of one who stands. The non-obligation of standing in supererogatory prayers does not fall under the aforementioned rule, which states that the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) performance of something that was prohibited implies that the prohibition became one of disliking (karahah) or was specific to him. Rather, it is a concession for his Ummah, and it results in half the reward. As for repairing a broken vessel with silver, it is permissible under certain conditions: that the repair (patch) be small, made of silver not gold, and for a need.
