Is it permissible to accept money distributed from blood money (diyyah) for accidental killing, according to tribal customs, or must it be returned to the victim's family?

The blood money (diyya) of the slain is to be distributed among his legal heirs, each according to their prescribed share, except for the one who caused the killing. According to the Maliki school, such a person does not inherit from the blood money, and according to the majority of scholars, they inherit neither from it nor from anything else. No one other than the heirs has a right to it; rather, whatever was taken unjustly must be returned and distributed among those legally entitled to it.
