How sound are these Hadiths: "The martyr has six merits with Allah: he is forgiven with the first drop of blood, he sees his seat in Paradise, he is spared the torment of the grave, he is safe from the Great Terror, a crown of dignity is placed on his head, a single ruby from which is better than the world and all that is in it, he is married to seventy-two wives from among the Hur al-'Ain, and he intercedes for seventy of his relatives," and "What is the matter with the believers that they are afflicted in their graves except the martyr? He said: The flashing of swords over his head is enough of an affliction"?

The dead are tried in their graves by the questioning of the two angels, Munkar and Nakir. This has been reported in numerous prophetic narrations. However, there are other narrations that specify this general rule and exempt certain individuals from the grave's trial, among them is the martyr. The evidence for this is what Al-Nasa'i narrated: "The flashing of swords over his head is sufficient trial." Scholars have interpreted this to mean that the steadfastness of the martyr in battle is proof of his truthfulness in faith, thus he does not need to be questioned in the grave, and the martyr is not tried in his grave.
