Is it permissible to undergo surgery to return to the original state after an abortion and separation, in order to conceal the previous pregnancy and remarry in a conservative society, while feeling remorseful?
Abortion is a major sin. If a woman aborts a fetus after forty days, then the one who performed the abortion is liable to pay a "ghurrah" (penalty), which is a slave or a female servant. If neither is available, then it is one-tenth of the mother's blood money. The basic principle is that hymen restoration is not permissible due to the -related concerns it entails, unless harm befalls a chaste woman whose hymen was lost due to a non-prohibited incident, such as if she fears harm to herself, or it is highly likely that men will avoid marrying her. In this case, there is no harm in it due to necessity or need. Determining whether restoration constitutes a need or a necessity is determined by someone knowledgeable about the customs of the society.
