Is there any (recompense) due on one who took two orphaned kittens from the Sacred Mosque (Haram al-Makki) and removed them from it?

Hunting cats within the Haram (sacred precinct) is not prohibited, and there is no penalty for it, because it is not edible. The game for which a penalty is required must be edible, ownerless, and wild. Ibn Qudamah stated that a penalty is only obligatory for killing edible game, and a cat is not such; rather, it is a beast of prey.
