The wife's answering her husband to bed is obligatory and a right for him, and it is not permissible for her to refuse without a legitimate excuse. The husband being paralyzed or elderly does not justify her refusal. If she refuses without a legitimate excuse, she is considered disobedient (nashiz) and her right to maintenance (nafaqa) is forfeited. Striking a disobedient wife is permissible within its Islamic regulations; it is not the first step, and it must be a non-brutal striking. Cursing and insulting the wife is forbidden and contrary to good companionship, and it may entitle her to seek divorce. Displaying marital problems in front of children is a major mistake. If the reason for the wife's withholding herself is the husband's failure to provide for her, then this may be permissible for her. However, if the psychological illness has reached a stage where she loses control over her actions, then she is not blameworthy. It is advised to make supplication, counsel the parents wisely, and seek help from wise individuals to reconcile between them.
