Was the reproduction of mankind after Adam and Eve permissible between brothers and sisters if they were the only two people on Earth?
All human beings originated from Adam and his wife, as Allah Almighty says: "O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women." (An-Nisa: 1) And His saying: "It is He who created you from one soul and made from it its mate that he might dwell in ease with her. When he had covered her, she carried a light burden and continued with it." (Al-A'raf: 189).
In some Hadiths, it is mentioned that Adam and his wife used to have twins, a male and a female, in each pregnancy. The male of one pregnancy would be married to the female of the previous pregnancy, and the female of the second pregnancy would be married to the male of the first. This was permissible out of necessity, but it was later forbidden for a brother to marry his sister after their numbers increased.
