Is the hospitality, food, and travel expenses provided by foreign companies to a government employee who monitors the quality of their products considered "gifts to employees a form of ill-gotten gain"? And is the food and drink permissible at conferences held by these companies to display their products?

Everything given to a worker to win him over and in hope of gaining his favor falls under the category of forbidden gifts to workers, except for what is offered to the general public, such as water and coffee. One must avoid special gifts that are not given to anyone other than the worker, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Gifts to workers are unlawful acquisition (ghulul)." The worker may attend a food banquet or take product samples with the permission of the employer.
