Is it obligatory for someone who has stopped praying out of negligence and laziness for four months to make up the missed prayers, or is his repentance sufficient?

Intentionally abandoning prayer is one of the greatest sins, and it may amount to disbelief according to some Companions and scholars. Others held that it is a grave sin but does not constitute disbelief. They differed concerning making up the missed prayers: the majority believe that making them up is obligatory, while Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, and others hold that making them up is not obligatory, and that they would not be accepted from him. Rather, he must repent and perform many supererogatory prayers and good deeds.
