What is the ruling on buying, selling, and wearing European club shirts that bear players' names and logos with crosses, and what is the ruling on praying in them? What is the ruling on selling those shirts that bear numbers only, or bear neither names nor numbers, or whose crosses have been effaced? Is this considered a widespread affliction (umum al-balwa)? And what should merchants do if selling them is impermissible?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to wear shirts that glorify disbelievers or their clubs, such as bearing the name of a player, his club, or his number, or their images. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa prohibiting clothing that carries symbols referring to the religions of disbelievers or glorifying any person among them, while permitting permissible commercial logos. Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen forbade the buying and selling of these goods, because they strengthen disbelievers and drain the wealth of Muslims. As for the ruling on praying in these shirts, the prayer is valid, though sinful. The buying and selling of such clothing is forbidden due to the harms it causes to people's religion and morals, and because it contradicts the principle of hating disbelievers and aligning oneself with Allah and His Messenger. They must be boycotted.
