Does Islam permit a pregnant wife to be forced to name her newborn a name she dislikes in order to please her husband's mother?

First, avoid disagreement over the naming before the baby arrives. The father of the newborn has more right to name the child, and if he delegates the matter to his wife, there is no harm in naming a female child after the husband's mother (the mother-in-law) if the name is good; for in doing so, her feelings are appeased, and it is an honor for her and for the husband. If she is not named after her due to the name being unappealing or a desire for another name, there is also no harm, but it is preferable to agree with the mother-in-law as a gesture of honor to her and to the husband.
