What is your position on those who exaggerate in praise of the righteous?

Exaggeration concerning the righteous, such as supplicating to them, seeking blessings from their graves, turning their graves into mosques, and depicting their images, are practices of جاهلية (pre-Islamic ignorance) idolatry. The upright Sharia (definition) has blocked every means leading to idolatry and closed every door that leads to the worship of anyone other than Allah, as a protection for the creed of Tawhid (definition) (monotheism). Indeed, they built mosques over the graves of their righteous and placed images within them, a practice against which the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, warned, saying: "Those are the worst of creation in the sight of Allah." He cursed the Jews and Christians for taking the graves of their prophets as places of worship (masajid), and he forbade taking graves as masajid. As the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "O Allah, do not make my grave an idol to be worshipped. Allah's wrath intensified upon a people who took the graves of their prophets as masajid." These texts urge avoidance of exaggeration concerning the righteous, which could lead to their worship.
