What are the controls and limits of filial piety regarding parental interference in their children's lives, such as their academic specialization, forbidding them from going out, and assigning them tasks that affect their studies? Is not obeying them in these matters, while gently discussing it with them, considered disobedience (aqūq)? What is the Sharia-based justification for the lack of obligation to obey in these cases?

Filial piety is one of the most obligatory duties. Obedience to parents has conditions: that the command is not in disobedience [to God], as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator." Also, they must have a valid purpose in what they command and forbid, and it must not cause harm to the child.
