The answer

A wife is not permitted to seek a divorce without a valid Shar’i (Islamic legal) excuse. The scent of Paradise is forbidden to her if she does so without a just cause. A divorced woman must observe an ’idda (waiting period) of three Qurū’ (periods of purity between menstruations) if she menstruates. As for one who does not menstruate, her ’idda is three months, and the ’idda of a pregnant woman is until she gives birth. A woman observing ’idda due to divorce is not required to observe mourning (ihdād), but it is forbidden for her to marry before her ’idda is complete. If the divorce was without compensation (i.e., not a khul‘), a valid رجعة (revocation of divorce) occurs through an explicit statement from the husband, such as "I have taken her back," or through an implicit statement with the intention of revocation, such as "You are my wife, and I do not wish to separate from you." If the revocation is valid, the wife is not permitted to refuse to return to her husband.
