Is it permissible to play dominoes for amusement, and what is the evidence for that from the Book and the Sunnah?

Dominoes are forbidden because they include dice, based on the words of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever plays with nardashir (backgammon) is as though he dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig," and his saying: "Whoever plays with dice has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger." However, if dominoes are free of dice and anything else that necessitates prohibition, then the basic ruling concerning them is permissibility.
