What is the ruling on reclaiming money from one's father if one is in dire need of it and the father is currently unable to return it?

It is permissible for a son to demand his money from his father if the father is not in need of that money, especially if the son is in need. However, if the father is in hardship, it is not permissible to demand it from him. Rather, it is obligatory to grant him respite until he becomes solvent, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: ﴿And if there is one in hardship, then grant him respite till ease﴾ (Al-Baqarah: 280). It is better and brings greater reward for the son to honor his father and refrain from demanding the debt or to completely waive it.
