Is it permissible to demand the money one lent to his father, knowing that the father shows no interest in repayment even though he is well-off?

It is permissible for a son to demand repayment of a debt from his father according to the majority of scholars, in contrast to the Hanbalis. The preponderant opinion is that you are permitted to demand repayment of the debt from your father, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Delaying [payment by] a rich person is an injustice," and his saying: "Whoever takes people's money with the intention of repaying it, Allah will repay on his behalf; and whoever takes it with the intention of destroying it, Allah will destroy him." However, it is not permissible to imprison parents for debt, based on the Almighty's saying: "And accompany them in the world with kindness," and "and to parents, good treatment." The father's shortcomings do not nullify his right to dutifulness.
