"Whoever made up the fasts due from the previous Ramadan after the subsequent Ramadan has done well. However, delaying the making up of these fasts until the following Ramadan, without a valid excuse, incurs the penalty of feeding a poor person for each day for which the making up of the fast was delayed. This is unless she was ignorant of the impermissibility of the delay, in which case there is no expiation (fidyah) upon her, but only the making up of the fasts."
