How can I overcome laxity in performing acts of obedience and refraining from prohibitions, especially given my fear that people's perception of me and of bearded men in general will change?

The believer's duty is to strive in doing good deeds and abandoning evil, and to call people to do likewise, seeking Allah's pleasure, with sincere intention and without showing off to people. The believer is saved from loss if he is characterized by four qualities: faith in Allah, righteous deeds, enjoining one another to the truth, and enjoining one another to patience. With the first two, a person perfects himself, and with the last two, he perfects others. By perfecting all four matters, he is saved from loss and achieves great profit.
