A traveler is required to pray in full if he intends to stay in a country for more than four days. If he intends to stay for less than that, he may shorten the prayer (qasr). Combining prayers (jam') is permissible for other excuses such as rain, illness, and hardship. A traveler is also obligated to attend Friday prayer if he intends an residence that prevents qasr and there are residents for whom Friday prayer is obligatory.
