Is it permissible for us to differ in matters of religion, follow the scholars, and adopt the opinion of one of them?

There are matters on which the Salaf (early Muslims) reached a consensus, and we cannot deviate from their opinion. And there are matters on which the Imams (scholars) differed. The disagreement of later scholars on these matters is permissible, provided that each disputant is qualified or is a follower of one who is qualified. This difference of opinion is a sign of breadth and mercy.
