Is the birth of a child with Down syndrome, given difficult circumstances and a lack of complete religious commitment, considered a trial or a punishment?

A Muslim woman should praise Allah and thank Him for His bounty, and use His blessings in obedience to Him. Allah's testing of His servants contains great wisdoms; it may be to avert harm, or to expiate sins, or to raise one's status. It is obligatory to be patient and content with Allah's decree and destiny, and to strive to treat the son and seek healing from Allah.
