Is it permissible to offer the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) for the deceased while they are in a car outside the mosque and have not been placed in front of the Imam inside it?

Praying over a جنازة (funeral bier) inside a car involves the bier being carried and a barrier existing between it and the worshippers. Scholars differ concerning the ruling on praying over a funeral bier that is being carried or that has a barrier between it and the worshippers. The Hanbalis consider it invalid, while the Shafi'is deem it valid. For a more cautious approach, it is preferable to remove the coffin from the car and place it on the ground in front of the Imam. However, if the prayer is performed while it is in the car, it is valid according to those who permit it, provided that it is directed towards the Qibla.
