Why are the devils chained during the month of Ramadan?

The chaining of devils (Shayatin) in Ramadan is a well-established truth in the Hadiths, and it is to be taken literally: that the devils are chained, and their harm and whisperings (waswasah) diminish. This does not mean that their influence or sins cease to exist; rather, they weaken and are unable to do what they are capable of outside Ramadan. Sins occur for other reasons, such as wicked souls and human devils (Shayatin al-Ins), and evil is less prevalent compared to other months. The wisdom behind this is to reduce their temptation of Muslims so that people refrain from harming others and increase their devotion to acts of obedience.
