What are the other non-consecutive indications that shift the command to repeat the Adhan from obligation to recommendation, and is it obligatory to state that it is obligatory if these indications are not found?

The correct and chosen opinion is that following the mu'adhin (caller to prayer) is mustahabb (recommended) and not wajib (obligatory). This is the view of the majority of scholars, and they cited several indications to support it:

- The Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "When you hear the mu'adhin, say what he says," is a command of recommendation, not obligation.

- The Prophet (peace be upon him) heard a mu'adhin call the adhan and said: "Upon the fitra (natural disposition)," and it was not narrated that he answered or followed him. Had it been obligatory, he would have done so.

- The Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying to Malik ibn Al-Huwayrith and his companions: "When the time for prayer comes, let one of you call the adhan, then let the oldest among you lead you in prayer." This indicates that following is not obligatory.

- The practice of the Salaf (early Muslims): People used to converse during the adhan in the time of Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and neither Umar nor any of the Companions objected to them.
