Is it permissible to engrave the Two Testimonies (Shahadatayn), or the name of the husband or wife, or one of the Beautiful Names of Allah on gold or a silver ring?

It is permissible to engrave the two Shahadas (declarations of faith) or the names of Allah Almighty on gold and silver, as long as there is no desecration involved. It has been authenticated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" engraved on his ring, and he would wear it when entering the lavatory. As for engraving the name of one spouse on the ring of the other, the default ruling is permissibility, unless it involves imitation of non-Muslims. It is permissible to engrave a person's name or a word of wisdom along with the mention of Allah Almighty.
