Why was Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) not satisfied with the testimony of only one person when compiling the Quran, even though the verse (Say: "If mankind and jinn were to gather together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if some of them were to aid others") indicates their inability to produce anything like it in its eloquence and rhetoric?

Uthman ibn Affan gathered the Qur’an to unify Muslims upon a single reading after the expansion of conquests, as differences in recitation emerged among various regions. Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman advised on the necessity of gathering the Qur’an, so Uthman sent a message to Hafsa asking her to send him the folios that had been collected during Abu Bakr's time. Uthman entrusted a committee consisting of Zayd ibn Thabit, Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, Sa'id ibn al-Aas, and Abdur-Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn Hisham with transcribing them into mushafs. He instructed them that if they disagreed on anything, they should write it in the dialect of Quraysh. Then, he sent these transcribed mushafs to the Islamic provinces along with reciters, and ordered all other folios or personal mushafs to be burned, in order to unify the Ummah upon one mushaf. This endeavor was met with the approval of the Companions, and the method of collection did not rely on perceiving miraculousness but rather on memorization and what was written, to establish a clear and consistent methodology beyond dispute.
