Is he who delays prayer out of laziness until its time expires considered to have left the fold of Islam, or is it a condition for that to be the case that he believes it is not obligatory?

Neglecting prayer, while denying its obligation, is an act of disbelief (kufr) that expels one from the fold of Islam, by the consensus of Muslims. There is a jurisprudential opinion that considers one who abandons even a single prayer out of laziness, after its time has elapsed, to be a disbeliever. However, the fatwa we adopt is that one who abandons prayer out of laziness does not become a disbeliever.
