What is the ruling on what a young man is experiencing, as he suffers from obsessive thoughts of blaspheming the Divine Essence, watching pornography, and seeing sexual images during prayer along with feeling movement in his private parts? Is this a trial or a punishment? Is there repentance for him? What is the ruling on dying in this state? And what is the ruling on his prayers, fasting, and recitation of the Qur’an?

A Muslim must repent to Allah and engage in prayer and good deeds, for Allah accepts the repentance of the wrongdoer. Allah the Almighty said in a Sacred Hadith (definition) (Hadith Qudsi): "O son of Adam, so long as you invoke Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind."

A Muslim should hasten to repent and be diligent in prayer by going to the mosque upon hearing the call to prayer (adhan (definition)). They should associate with the righteous, occupy their time with beneficial knowledge, productive work, exercise, and purposeful reading, and stay away from browsing malicious websites, using the internet only for what is beneficial.
