The answer

The Sunnah for someone who wants to pray and fears someone passing in front of them is to place a sutrah in front of them and to draw near to it, and not to allow anyone to pass between them and it. Some scholars have gone to the extent of saying that it is obligatory to use a sutrah for one who fears someone passing, due to the Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) command regarding it: "When one of you prays, let him pray towards a sutrah and draw near to it, and not let anyone pass in front of him." As for the bed, it is not a place for prayer, and praying on it does not suffice for placing a sutrah if it is possible for someone to pass in front of it. Moreover, performing obligatory prayers in congregation is a duty for able-bodied men.
