Should the head or face of the deceased be oriented towards the Qibla during the ritual washing (ghusl)? And was the person responsible for washing my deceased mother wrong in pressing heavily on her abdomen to cleanse the intestines, and how can I atone for this mistake?

Scholars have differed regarding the recommended posture for the deceased during ghusl (definition) (ritual washing). Some believe it is preferable to lay the body on its right side facing the Qiblah, similar to its position during the death throes. Others hold that the body should be supine, with the feet towards the Qiblah. The Malikis do not require orienting the deceased towards the Qiblah.

It is not prescribed to press the abdomen of the deceased forcefully; rather, it should be done gently and kindly to expel any impurities, and water should be poured over it to conceal whatever emerges.
