How were children raised during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and what were their games and activities, and the household chores they participated in, and at what ages did they begin to help, and did girls work outside the home, and what was a typical child's day like at that time?

In the time of the Prophet, the day for children would begin with the Fajr prayer for those who had reached seven years of age, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Command your children to pray when they are seven years old."

The Companions occupied their children's daytime with three things:

1. Teaching them faith (Iman), Islam, the Qur'an, and acts of worship: They learned faith before the Qur'an, which increased their faith. Some of them recited surahs from Al-Mufassal. They regularly performed the five daily prayers. Some of them fasted as a form of training. Some of them performed Hajj.

2. Involving them in life activities and service: Examples include Anas's service to the Prophet, peace be upon him.

3. Playing and recreation: A'isha played with dolls with her friends. Anas played with other boys in the market. They continued to play permissible games and strength-building games.

As for women, they stayed in their homes and did not go out except for a necessity or to pray in the mosque, while adhering to the manners that foster modesty and chastity.
