If the discharge is semen (maniyy), then ghusl (ritual bath) is obligatory. The characteristics of a woman's semen are that it is thin and yellowish, though it may also be white. Its emission is followed by a cooling of desire, and its smell resembles the smell of dough or palm pollen. Semen is pure according to the most preponderant opinion, though it is preferable to wash it off. However, if the discharge is thin and white, it is madhiy (pre-seminal fluid), which is impure and nullifies ablution (wudu').
