Was the punishment of cutting off the hand of a thief practiced in the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), and are the hadiths that mention this authentic and well-known?

There is no benefit in researching whether the cutting off of a thief's hand was practiced in the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). It is sufficient that Islam introduced it with specific conditions. A group of scholars has mentioned that the cutting off of a thief's hand was indeed practiced in the Jahiliyyah, and they cited the names of individuals whose hands were severed, such as those who stole the Kaaba's deer during the time of Abd al-Muttalib, Awf bin Abd, and Miqis bin Qays. The first to rule for its severance in the Jahiliyyah was al-Walid bin al-Mughira. The first thief whose hand the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cut off in Islam was al-Khiyar bin Adi.
