What is the religious ruling on a man divorcing his wife more than three times while she is menstruating, after he had previously divorced her once?

If a husband divorces his wife during her menstrual period, he has committed a sin. Nevertheless, the majority of scholars hold that this divorce is valid. As for repeating the divorce pronouncement, if the husband intended only the first pronouncement as a divorce and made the subsequent ones a confirmation, or if he had no specific intention, then a single divorce is binding upon him. However, if he intended to initiate three divorces or more, then three divorces are binding upon him, according to the majority of scholars. Therefore, the husband's intention must be inquired about. If it becomes clear that the divorce was three or more, then a major irrevocable divorce (al-baynunah al-kubra) has occurred. If the divorce was less than three and the husband did not reconcile with his wife, he may do so if the waiting period ('iddah) is still ongoing. If the waiting period has ended, she is not lawful for him except through a new marriage contract. It should be noted that the opinion held as authoritative (al-mufta bihi) is that of the majority.
