Did Abraham point to the largest idol when his people asked him about the idol-breaker, intending his largest finger so as not to lie, being infallible from lying? And if he did not lie, then why will he say on the Day of Resurrection, when people come to him for intercession: "Go to someone else, for I remembered my lie" (rather, their chief did it) and say: "My soul, my soul"?

Scholars have not reported any text indicating that Abraham (peace be upon him) intended a specific finger with his words. Rather, they have two approaches regarding the interpretation of his statement: The first is that he used dissimulation (Tawriya) and did not lie. The second is that he told a lie that was not blameworthy, for the sake of an interest. And His (Allah's) saying: (Nay, this one, the biggest of them, did it) meaning: whoever did it, did it, or it was said by way of a condition and to demonstrate the idols' inability to speak. And what is mentioned in the Hadith (definition) of Intercession, that Abraham mentions his lies, is interpreted as being due to the Prophets’ awe and reverence for Allah, or that he spoke words contrary to reality, not by revelation, and thus feared that his independent reasoning might not be correct.
