What is the ruling on performing Duha prayer while driving a car?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible for a traveler to pray Duha and other supererogatory prayers while driving his car, due to the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who used to pray on his mount wherever it turned, and would dismount for the obligatory prayers. As for performing supererogatory prayers on a mount while in one's hometown, the majority of scholars have prohibited it, and this is more cautious, due to the hadith of Ibn Umar, and because Imam Ahmad did not hear of such a practice. Therefore, one should not pray Duha while driving in one's hometown, but it is permissible during travel.
