Is it permissible to say that our destinies are determined by our choice of our worldly destination?

Man is both predestined (مسير) and given free will (مخير) at the same time. He is predestined because his actions are the execution of divine decrees that he cannot change. He is given free will because he has been granted intellect, will, and power to distinguish and choose his actions. The statement "we determine our destinies by determining our direction in this world" could be true if it means man's ability to choose the path of good or evil and thus deserve reward or punishment. However, it is false if it intends to deny divine decree and imply that man creates his own actions. A Muslim should avoid ambiguous phrases that could contain both truth and falsehood.
