ما هو القزع وما حكمه؟

The Prophet's guidance concerning head hair was either to leave it all or remove it all; it was not to shave part of it and leave part of it. Al-Qaza' – which is shaving part of the head and leaving part of it – is prohibited. It has several forms, such as shaving certain spots and leaving others, or shaving the sides and leaving the middle, or vice versa, or shaving the front and leaving the back, or vice versa, or shaving a part of one side and leaving the rest. The prohibition of these forms is indicated by what was narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) "forbade al-Qaza'." And when the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw a boy whose hair was partially shaved, he forbade that and said, "Shave it all or leave it all." And it is narrated from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) in a Marfu' narration: "Shaving the nape of the neck without cupping is a practice of the Magians." Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a boy with two locks of hair and said, "Shave these or cut them, for this is the attire of the Jews." Imam Ahmad said about shaving the nape of the neck: "It is an act of the Magians, and whoever imitates a people is one of them."
