What is the Islamic legal ruling concerning a mosque imam who is characterized by repeated absence from prayers, lying, mistreating worshippers with clear discrimination, hastiness and contradiction in issuing fatwas, and lacking proficiency in the English language, which has affected da'wah, in addition to instigating his wife to insult the mosque's founders, which has led to division among the worshippers and some of them refraining from praying behind him and from financially supporting the mosque?

The Imam must be a good role model for those behind him in fulfilling his trust and preserving the five daily prayers in the mosque. He should be characterized by virtuous morals, be gentle with people, and not differentiate in his treatment of them.

Those who should stand immediately behind the Imam in the prayer line are people of knowledge and sound intellect.

If there is a shortcoming from the Imam, the sensible worshippers should advise him and remind him of his position. Otherwise, the matter should be escalated to those responsible for the mosque's management.
